One of the early engineering hires on an early-stage social platform — and the first product I worked on that was still taking shape as I built it.
Joining an early product
Concept was an early-stage social platform, and I joined as one of its early engineering hires. It was also one of my first opportunities to work on a product where the application itself—not just individual pages or features—was still taking shape.
What I worked on
My work was primarily frontend-focused, building the foundational responsive interface in React and helping establish patterns the application could grow around. I also worked further into the stack, including real-time notifications using WebSockets and Redux.
Because the team was small, the role extended beyond implementing finished designs. I participated in system design and database modeling, helped refine requirements and organize stories, and worked through features from initial discussion to production.
What came from it
Concept gave me early experience working inside an evolving product rather than against a fixed specification. It was where I started becoming interested in the decisions around what gets built and how a product takes shape, not only the implementation that follows.
